Welcome to Redditch 'N' Bromsgrove Linux User Group

by dg — last modified 2009-02-16 12:31

Your South Birmingham and Worcestershire LUG and general geek meet

What's a LUG?

A Linux User Group is generally a group of Linux Users who get together to talk about all sort of things Linux and Open Source together. There are LUGs up and down the country (See lug.org.uk for more details).

What does a LUG do?

Linux User Groups meet to talk and learn about Linux. Some groups meet informally in pubs and restaurants, others meet in more formal locations and have talks at every meeting. This group is (currently) firmly in the 'social' camp.

However, we'd like this to be more than a Linux User Group, encouraging anyone vaguely local and vaguely technical to come along and join us for food and beer. Meetings may have a "topic" but it's more than likely any conversation will drift off course to cover the latest news and suchlike.

Why another LUG?

Redditch and Bromsgrove LUG has been set up to address the lack of a LUG in this area. Many of us travel as far as Wolverhampton for a sociable Linux User Group meeting, but no more!

Meetings

The first meeting was in Bromsgrove (8th March 2007), and quite successful (10 people turned up!).

We intended to hold meetings on a monthly basis, but real life got in the way. So (unless someone else wants to organise a meeting), sporadic ones will occur from now on.
